Get Data from Data Server
The NMR data collected for Chem 201/202 students is stored in the Chemistry 201 and 202 folders on the Courses server. You cannot store data on these servers yourself, so you need to transfer your data to another location.
These requirements have two implications:
- First, you can always retrieve an uncorrupted data file from the Courses server. This is useful if you and/or SpinWorks do something horrible to your data.
- Second, once you begin working with your data, it becomes movable. SpinWorks remembers what it has done to your data, so you do not have to repeat all of the processing steps each time you want a printout. (This is also useful if SpinWorks unexpectedly quits.)
To reach your data, do the following:
- Click Start: Run… (the Start button is located in the lower left corner of the screen)
- Type \\nmr\data
- Navigate to a folder that your lab assistant guides you to, or look for a folder with a suitable name, e.g. 201_Mon_2006
- Plow through this folder until you find your raw NMR data (ABC.EXP.DAY or DAY.ABC.EXP)
- Drag your NMR data folder to the Save Your Work Here folder (this is equivalent to the My Documents folder
- Close NMR server window
The computers in the Chemistry lab only allow data to be stored in the My Documents folder. You cannot use the desktop.
