The term "dharma" is usually used by Wang Wei in its sense of the Buddhist law or truth, and thus needs to be capitalized. However, he is using it here in its sense of anything "which has entity and bears its own attributes" and is referring to the Mahayana Buddhist doctrine that all dharmas are at base empty, or devoid of permanent characteristics.
