This line alludes to Wang Huizhi/Wang Hui-chih (d. 388), a son of the famous calligrapher Wang Xizhi/Wang Hsi-chih (321-79). Huizhi once stopped to admire the bamboos in the yard of a friend, Wu Zhongyi, but refused his host's entreaties to come and visit. Wu finally had to close the gate behind Wang to induce him to stay.
