Choose ONE of the following assignments, and post a 100-word report on the course folder.
1. Take a look at the Mandell-Liu Romantic Chronology for 1818 and 1831 to get a sense of the context in which the two editions of Frankenstein were published. (You might take a look at the intervening years, as well). In your 100-word report, consider such questions as the following: What would you want to find out more about? What research ideas does this chronology suggest to you?
3. Read this excerpt from Walpole, The Castle of Otranto. Discuss in relation to Hogle's analysis of relations between Otranto and Frankenstein.
2. Take a look at the on-line resources listed by Voice of the Shuttle for the study of Mary Shelley. Dream up a research project you could do (given world enough and time!). Write a 100-word proposal for a 15-20 page research paper drawing on some of these resources.
