How to Make Your Own Webpage!
Access the Home Server: Storing and Uploading WebPages

  1. Chooser: Apple Share: Academic Servers: Home Server
  2. Login & Password same as UNIX
  3. Open html folder

Using Dreamweaver
1. Locate and Open Dreamweaver
2. Create a Folder for your Work

  • Open the html folder on the Home Server
  • That’s it!

3. Creating a Site in Dreamweaver

  • Under Site choose “new”
  • Give the Site a Name (e.g. “English303”)
  • For “Local Root Folder” choose the html folder your Home Server
  • Click on “Remote Info (on the left). Choose “local network” and then the same folder you just chose before.

4. Play with a Page

5. Now, create your own page

  • OPEN A NEW PAGE. Under File open “new”
  • GIVE IT AN ADDRESS. Save as index.html It is important to save it as “index.html” so that it is the page that opens when people go to your site and so that they can’t look at the contents of your folder
  • GIVE YOUR PAGE A TITLE. This is what appears in people’s Bookmarks and at the top of the WebPage. It can be long and have spaces. To do go to Modify open “Page Preferences.”
  • GIVE YOUR PAGE A LOOK. Under Modify open “Page Preferences.”

6. Creating Individual Pages

  • Once you have a look you like for your index resave it as a new name e.g. “Save as” Assignments.html or Index.html

7. Checkout your page!

Look at your page two ways: SAVE IT FIRST!

o PREVIEW: File: Preview in Browser
o ONLINE: http://www.reed.edu/~unixname/index.htm
Unixname = your first initial + last name (all lower case, no spaces)

8. You are done! If you finish early create a page for your group. See samplepage:
