Indian Converts Collection

American Passages: A Literary Survey.

Professional development and classroom materials to enhance the study of American Literature in its cultural context. The series is organized into 16 Units; each exploring canonical and re-discovered texts, and presenting the material through an Instructor Guide, a 30-minute documentary video series, literary texts and an integrated Study Guide. Produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting. Funded by Annenberg/CPB. Academic Director, Laura Arnold(Leibman). This series won the Gold Plaque for Best Educational/Documentary Series at the 39th Chicago International Television Awards (“Hugo Awards”).

Artifacts and Fiction. A Professional Development Series for Secondary Teachers of American Literature.

Each of the eight workshops includes an hour video documentaries and curriculum materials for guiding discussion. The videos follow secondary teachers as they learn and implement an American Studies approach to American Literature that will allow them to enrich students’ readings of literature through the use of cultural artifacts. Segments include tips on reading literature in conjunction with artifacts by an expert in the field, guided analysis of how to pair literature and artifacts, classroom demonstrations, and interviews with secondary teachers. This series in Produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting. Broadcasting as a companion to American Passages and is funded by a grant from Annenberg. Laura Arnold Leibman is the Lead Advisor as well as the expert featured in “Workshop 5: Domestic Architecture.”


Teaching & Technology: A Workshop (Reed College, Summer 2002).

This three-day workshop covered Writing and Technology, Power Point for students and teachers, and Using Webpages in Teaching. Each three- hour session was comprised of a faculty presentation, discussion, and a hands-on introduction to using the technology.
