Preferences
The Preferences window allows users to change the way some of Portfolio's
basic functions operate. To open it, choose Portfolio > Preferences (OS X),
or Edit > Preferences (OS 9, Windows).
There are a variety of different customization options available via the Preferences
window; this guide will only cover the more useful ones. If you would like to
learn about the options not covered here, visit the FML to check out a Portfolio
manual, or contact Fred Lifton.
The functions that are important include:
- Prompt to Save Untitled Galleries. (General tab) Controls whether
Portfolio prompts you to save untitled galleries before you close them.
(Recommended)
- Confirm Delete from Catalog.(General tab) This option dictates
whether Portfolio will confirm the action any time you attempt to delete an
item from a catalog.
- Delete Key Function. (General tab) A pull-down menu that allows
you to dictate whether the delete key deletes an item from the current
gallery or from the whole catalog.
- Double-Click Function. Details whether double-clicking on an item
shows a preview, shows properties, or edits the original file.
- Default Open Mode. Sets the access level that Portfolio automatically
uses when opening a catalog. If certain access levels require a password, you
will still need to enter it on opening the catalog.
- Image Dimensions. (General tab) This option dictates whether
Portfolio will confirm the action any time you attempt to delete an item from
a catalog. Sets the format for display of an image's dimensions in the Preview
window (pixels, inches, centimeters, or millimeters).
- Prompt for Cataloging Options. (Cataloging tab) Controls whether
Portfolio opens the Cataloging Options window when you add items to a catalog,
as well as whether Portfolio follows certain commands and applies certain
rules to items it adds. (We recommend leaving unchecked the option "Do not
prompt for Cataloging Options.")
- QuickFind Parameters. (QuickFind tab) Via this Preferences tab,
users can specify which fields a QuickFind will search, as well as whether
the QuickFind opens a new gallery or displays its results in the currently
selected gallery window.
