Fifth Annual Meeting of the APS Northwest Section

The American Physical Society’s Northwest Section Meeting
will be held Friday and Saturday May 30-31, 2003, at Reed College
in Portland, Oregon. Registration and Abstract Submission Deadlines
are May 2, 2003. The program will consist of plenary talks, as
well as sessions of contributed and invited papers, focused on
the following subjects: Astrophysics and Gravity (including Astronomy),
Chemical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear Physics,
Particle Physics, Physics Education, and Industrial Physics.
The meeting
brings together participants drawn from institutions located within
the Northwest region of the United States and Canada.
Plenary talks on a wide range of subjects will be presented during
two morning-long sessions. Afternoons of both days will be devoted
to parallel sessions consisting of ten-minute contributed papers
and a few 30-minute invited talks. Special emphasis will be given
to contributed papers from students. Travel grants are available
to assist student attendance of the meeting. A poster session will

College is on Woodstock Blvd. in a Southeast Portland residential
neighborhood, five miles from
the Northwest
downtown area and 12 miles from Portland International Airport.
The campus is easily accessible from downtown locations and major
highways by car, public transportation, taxi, or airporter van.
The East Parking lot on SE Woodstock Blvd, with designated spaces
for those with disabilities, provides free car parking. For more

On Friday May 30, registration will be from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM in the Vollum College Center (please see Reed map). The program will begin promptly at 8:15 AM, so please plan to arrive on campus in plenty of time to register. At registration, you will receive a program packet, itemized payment receipt, name badge and banquet ticket (if applicable). Any outstanding meeting fees can be paid at that time. Complimentary refreshments including coffee, tea, juice, muffins and scones will be provided. If you arrive late, please register during our 20-minute break, which begins at 10:18 AM.
On Saturday May 31, registration will be from 7:45 AM to 8:30 AM. Complimentary refreshments will again be provided.
