UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON PROGRAM

Under this plan, a student normally takes three years at Reed and two years in the Computer Science Department at U. W. to receive the Reed B. A. and the University of Washington B. Sc. Three regular programs are available at Reed, in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. A program in Biology may be arranged by consultation of that Department with the University of Washington.

The usual dual degree requirements obtain for the Reed degree. In addition, courses required by the U. W. Computer Sciences Department for their B. Sc. are requirements for the Reed B. A.

Recommendation for transfer to U. W. under this plan is to come from the major department, and to be transmitted to U. W. through the Combined Plan Coordinator. Such recommendation must be planned for with the student not later than his or her acceptance into the Division."

Course Requirements for the Respective Majors:

Course substitutions which fulfill the intent of the course lists may be appropriate for certain students. However, any substitution must be approved by the major department in advance.

The Combined Plan Coordinator must certify to the University of Washington that the candidate for transfer has a general knowledge of the nature of the Computer Science field. The candidate may obtain this certification by passing a general course in Computer Science, or by presenting other evidence that he or she knows in a general way what the field is.

Major in Biology:

To be arranged, ad hoc, by the Biology Department and the University of Washington.

Major in Chemistry:

A combination of chemistry, mathematics, and physics courses; details are under revision based on changes in course numberings and units of credit that have occurred since the agreement was completed.

Major in Mathematics:

A combination of mathematics and physics courses; details are under revision based on changes in course numberings and units of credit that have occurred since the agreement was completed.

Major in Physics:

  • Physics 100, 200, 321, 342 or 322, 331, and 332.
  • Mathematics 111, 112, 210, and 311 or 331.
  • (This listing is also subject to near-term revision)
