Peace Corps Malaysia: Taught honor's level physics at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malysia in Kuala Lumpur between 1975 and 1978.

Malaysia (All over the peninsula). '10 (Fieldguides tour) Borneo: Kinabatangan, Kota Kinabalu, and the Danum valley.

India (twice: Bodh Gaya, Varanasi, Banglore (visiting the Institute of Molecular Biophysics), Calcutta (visiting the Indian Association of Science), Nepal (Annpurna and Makalau Base Camps), Pakistan, Thailand, Indonesia (twice: Bali, Sumatra, and Java), Taiwan, Japan (twice: visiting the Riken Institute), Hong Kong, Tanzania (Ngorongoro crater, the top of Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salam) Kenya (twice: the Serengheti, Olduvai Gorge, and the birding hot spots),

Kenya '78 (Solo: The Serengheti, Olduvai Gorge, and the birding hot spots).  '86 (Birding expedition with Sunbird Tours -- 450 species)

Europe '79 (Solo: by bike: Florence, Piza, South of France, Paris, Brussels). '81 (By bike: Brussels, Basel, Brussels) 

Germany '85 - '87 (a two year postdoc in Stuttgart) returned to the Max-Planck Institute for solid state physics in the summers of '88 and '89. 

Alaska and British Columbia (Via the Alaskan Hwy., Kenai, Eagle, Tok), Pribilof Islands, St. Lawrence Island, Nome, Gambell, 

Costa Rica (twice: Corcovado, Rara Avis, Hacienda Solimar).

Brazil '00 & '01(Sabbatical in laboratory of Professor Oscar Nassif de Mesquita-- Optical tweezer measurement of the speed of sound in single molecules of DNA. ). Travel to National parks or nature reserves in: Foz do Iguaccu (twice), The Pantanal (twice), Manaus (twice), Rio Grande do Sol, Sierra do Canastra, Recife, Caraca (innumerable times but not enough), Belem, Porto Seguro, Monte Pasquoal, Itatiaia.
