Language Scholar

The live-in language scholar is an indispensable member of the Reed Russian Department. A year or more of residence at the Russian House on campus provides both the scholar and the students with constant opportunities for language practice and cultural contact. As a member of the department, the Language Scholar teaches language drill-sections, attends and coordinates cultural events, and guides students through varying aspects of the Russian experience: culinary, linguistic, political, historical, and on and on...

I come from Saint Petersburg, the most European city in Russia and a major cultural center at the Baltic Sea. While I was in secondary school, I had no doubt that in order to understand the contemporary world and to get involved in it, I must first master the main weapon - the language, and it would guide me through my life. So I was studying German and English at St. Petersburg State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in German Philology in 2009. I got the most important experience in cross-cultural communication during the semester I spent at the University of Konstanz in Germany in 2008/2009, which also shifted the field of my interests to Media and Film Studies. I continued my study and received my MA in the last summer, majoring in Art Criticism and Film Studies. And now I’ve got a unique chance to discover the United States, to meet people interested in the culture of my country, and to share my love of Russian literature, arts and film in English, German and of course Russian not only as an assistant at the Russian department but also as a friend.
