Language Scholar

The live-in language scholar is an indispensable member of the Reed Russian Department. A year or more of residence at the Russian House on campus provides both the scholar and the students with constant opportunities for language practice and cultural contact. Peter LeznikovPeter Leznikov

Peter Leznikov grew up in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Between 1995 and 2005 he attended the Gymnasium #11 with a concentration in Advanced Studies in English. As a gymnasium student, Peter won a number of prizes in literary competitions; published several of his works; and participated in an intellectual TV-show for teenagers.

Now he is a senior at the Smolny College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Saint Petersburg. His major subjects are Foreign Literature and Film. Peter is interested in authors such as Raymond Carver, Fyodor Dostoevskii, Chuck Palahniuk, Alain Robbe-Grillet and Jerome David Salinger. His favorite directors include Jean-Luc Godard, Michael Haneke, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch and Gus Van Sant. While studying at the college he has tutored American students in Russian and has worked as a free lance translator in the private sector.

In his spare time Peter rides the bicycle, practices card tricks, and writes short fiction.
